Mandatory Radiation Protection Measures for Mobile DR Operation.Although the radiation dose of mobile DR (digital X-ray system) is generally low, the X-rays it generates are classified as ionizing radiation, which may cause potential harm to the human body. Protection measures must cover operators, patients and surrounding personnel, and strictly comply with national radiation safety standards.

Why Protection Is Required
Risks of Ionizing Radiation
When X-rays penetrate the human body, they may damage cellular DNA. Long-term or excessive exposure will increase the risks of cancer, gene mutation and other hazards. Even if the dose of a single examination is low, it is necessary to follow the “As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Principle” to minimize unnecessary exposure.
Application Scenarios of Mobile DR
Mobile DR is commonly used for bedside examinations in emergency departments, ICUs or operating rooms, where other patients and medical staff may be present. The device will generate scattered radiation (radiation spreading in all directions) during operation, which may affect non-target personnel without proper protection.
Specific Requirements for Protection Measures
Protection for OperatorsDistance Protection: Stay as far away from the radiation source as possible during operation, and a distance of more than 2 meters is recommended (radiation intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance).
Shielding Protection: Wear protective equipment such as lead aprons, lead thyroid collars and lead glasses, and use mobile lead screens when necessary.
Time Control: Reduce exposure time and avoid repeated radiography.
Protection for Patients
Cover non-examined areas (such as the thyroid and gonads) with lead aprons or lead rubber shields.
Strictly evaluate the necessity of examination for pregnant women and children, and strengthen targeted protection.
Site Management
Set up temporary warning lines or indicator lights in the examination area to ensure irrelevant personnel leave the radiation zone.
Keep a bed spacing of no less than 2 meters for other patients in the ward, or separate them with lead screens.
